Wedding Band Fit & Weight

A wedding band’s price comes down mostly to one thing: how much gold is in it. Two bands can look almost identical on your finger and still be priced differently — because the amount of gold is set by two choices, the fit profile and the weight of the band. Here’s how each one works, so the prices in our builder make sense.

The two fits we make

“Fit” describes the shape of the band’s cross-section — the outside you see and the inside that touches your finger.

Standard fit wedding band cross-section, rounded outside and flat insideStandard FitRounded outside, flat inside. The most traditional profile; the flat inner wall sits flush to the finger. Uses the least gold, so it’s the most affordable.
Comfort fit wedding band cross-section, rounded outside and domed insideComfort FitRounded outside, gently domed inside. The curved interior means less metal presses on your finger, so it slides on easily and wears comfortably all day. Uses a bit more gold than standard.

Weight: how substantial the band is

On top of the fit, each style is offered in a range of weights — from ultra-lightweight up to heavyweight. A heavier band has thicker walls and simply contains more gold. Since we price by gram-weight of gold, and gold prices are high right now, the weight you choose has a real effect on the final number.

Here’s the same classic band shown across four weights, in both standard and comfort fit, so you can see how much the gold content moves. (14K yellow gold, 5 mm wide, size 10.)

Weight Standard Fit Comfort Fit
Ultra-lightweight 3.34 g 3.67 g
Lightweight 4.09 g 5.57 g
Standard weight 5.37 g 7.85 g
Heavyweight 8.44 g 9.18 g

Grams shown are for this specific 14K / 5 mm / size 10 example — your band’s exact weight depends on metal, width, and finger size, all of which the builder accounts for.

Why comfort fit costs a little more

Comfort fit has that rounded interior, which is what makes it so easy to wear. Building that curved inner wall takes a bit more gold than a flat standard-fit band — look at the table above: the same standard-weight band jumps from 5.37 g to 7.85 g just by switching to comfort fit. More gold at today’s prices means a higher price. You’re not paying for a fancier name — you’re paying for real, measurable extra gold.

Which fit should you choose?

Comfort fit if you want the easiest on-and-off and the most comfortable all-day wear — a favorite for wider men’s bands and for anyone with larger knuckles. Standard fit if you prefer the classic, snugger, traditional feel — and the most affordable price. There’s no wrong answer; it’s about how you want it to feel. If you’re unsure, we’ll let you try both on in the showroom.
