Farsi 3D Bespoke Method: Custom Engagement Rings in Sandy Springs Without the Surprises

At Farsi Jewelers in Sandy Springs, we've built a clear, step-by-step approach to custom jewelry, so you know where your ring stands at every stage. We call it the Farsi 3D Bespoke Method — a personal path from first idea to handcrafted ring.

The process is built to be quick and clear. We combine CAD design, lifelike 3D previews, and hands-on craftsmanship. You see the design before we start making it, so there is little left to guess about. Most rings are finished in about 2–4 weeks from approved design, and complex projects can take up to 6 weeks.

Your Custom Ring Journey: Step-by-Step

Our 3D Bespoke Method breaks down into clear stages, each designed to give you confidence and control over your custom engagement ring. Here's exactly what happens:

Step 1: Initial Consultation & CAD Wireframe Design

Initial CAD design of a custom engagement ring created in MatrixGold by Farsi Jewelers in Sandy Springs

What happens: During your consultation at our Sandy Springs showroom, we discuss your style preferences, lifestyle needs, and budget. You'll see examples of different ring styles, lab-grown diamond and natural diamond options, and metal choices.

Within 3-5 business days, we create a CAD wireframe of your ring in MatrixGold software. A CAD wireframe is a 3D line drawing made on a computer. It shows every measurement, proportion, and structural part—the blueprint of your ring.

Your input: Review the wireframe and request any adjustments to proportions, stone sizes, or overall design direction. Changes at this stage are quick and easy.

Timeline: 3-5 business days from consultation to wireframe approval

Step 2: Photorealistic CAD Rendering

Photorealistic CAD render of a custom ring design from Farsi Jewelers, showcasing realistic metal and stone appearance

What happens: Once you approve the wireframe, we create a photorealistic shaded rendering—a lifelike picture of the design. It shows your ring in the real metal color you chose (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum), with the sparkle of the stones simulated.

This isn't a sketch. It is a high-quality picture that shows how light will hit the metal and the stones. You can clearly see prong shapes, engraving, side stone placement, and milgrain—the row of tiny beads that runs along an edge.

Your input: This is where you can test variations. Want to see it in rose gold instead of white gold? Different side stone shapes? We can make several versions so you can compare them side by side.

Step 2.5: Interactive 360° Visualization

Click and drag to rotate | Scroll to zoom | Explore every angle

What happens: We use MatrixGold and iJewel Design together to build an interactive 360° view of your ring. It gives you a lifelike view you can rotate, zoom, and explore from every angle on your phone, tablet, or computer.

What you'll see:

  • True metal appearance – Accurate reflections, warmth, and luster of your chosen metal
  • Stone brilliance – Watch how your diamond or gemstone catches and reflects light from every angle
  • Real-world proportions – Understand how the ring will look on your hand before manufacturing
  • Fine details – Zoom in to see prong tips, milgrain edges, gallery rails (the small side bars that run under the center stone), and basket construction (the open frame that cradles the stone)

Your input: Share the interactive 360° view with your partner, family, or friends through a simple link. Make final adjustments to stone placement, metal choice, or design details. This is your last checkpoint before we move to physical production.

Why this matters: Casting is the point of no return. Seeing the ring in 360° first means far fewer surprises when you get there, because the finished ring is built from the design you approved.

How the 360° View Is Made

We pair MatrixGold CAD with iJewel's real-time 3D rendering. That gives you a lifelike, interactive preview of a ring that does not exist in metal yet. Rotate the design a full 360°, change metal colors, and see true-to-life reflections—all before a single piece of metal is cast.

Step 3: 3D Wax Prototype & Try-On (Optional)

What happens: If you want to hold your design before it is cast, we 3D-print it in wax. You can wear the wax to see how the ring sits on your hand and how it looks in real light.

The wax model matches the exact weight, proportions, and finger fit of your final ring. Only the stones are missing. A screen cannot tell you how a ring feels; the wax can.

Your input: Try it on, take photos, wear it for a day. If you want to adjust the width, the height, or the comfort fit—the rounded inside edge that helps a ring slide on easily—we can change it before we cast the metal.

Test your wedding band pairing: the wax sits on your finger exactly the way the finished ring will, so you can hold a wedding band against it and see how the two sit together — whether they meet flush, or whether the pair would sit better with a curved band. Most people only get to ask that question after both rings are already made. Wedding bands are sold separately.

When it's worth doing: an unusual design, a wide band, testing a wedding band pairing, or choosing between two finger sizes.

Timeline: 3-5 days for wax creation (optional)

Step 4: Casting, Stone Setting & Final Craftsmanship

Final handcrafted custom engagement ring completed by Farsi Jewelers in Sandy Springs

What happens: Once you give final approval, our bench jewelers begin crafting your ring. The process includes:

  • Metal casting – Your design is cast in your chosen precious metal (14K/18K gold or platinum)
  • Stone setting – Each diamond or gemstone is hand-set with precision prongs, bezels (a metal rim that wraps around the stone), or pavé (many small stones set close together)
  • Finishing work – Polishing, rhodium plating (for white gold), engraving, and quality inspection
  • Final inspection – Our GIA Graduate Gemologist inspects every custom piece before it leaves our workshop

All work is completed in our Sandy Springs location by experienced artisan jewelers.

Your ring is ready: Schedule your pickup appointment, and we'll walk you through proper care and maintenance to keep your ring looking its best for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own diamond or gemstone?

Yes. You can bring a family heirloom stone, or a diamond you bought somewhere else. Our GIA Graduate Gemologist will assess the stone, design around its exact dimensions, and build it into your custom ring. Learn more about setting your own stone.

What if I want changes after seeing the CAD design?

Changes during the design phase are easy, and they are part of the process at no extra charge. We'll revise the design until it looks right to you. That's the advantage of digital design—we work everything out before any metal is cast.

Can I share the 360° visualization with others?

Yes! The interactive 360° viewer generates a unique link you can share via text, email, or social media. This is perfect for getting input from your partner, family, or friends without spoiling the surprise of the final ring.

Do I need to come to your Sandy Springs location?

An in-person consultation is best, because you can see metal samples, try on sizing rings, and talk your ideas through face-to-face. The booking button on this page reserves an in-store appointment only. If you live outside Metro Atlanta, we can meet by video or phone instead and share CAD previews and 360° views digitally. Video and phone consultations cannot be booked online—call or text 770-206-8000 and we will set one up with you.

How is this different from "custom" options at chain jewelry stores?

When we design a custom ring, we draw it from scratch rather than assembling it from catalog parts. We start with your idea, draw it in CAD, and shape each element — the proportions, the stone sizes, the way it sits on your hand — to your own measurements and taste. You see and approve the design before anything is made.
